Bar/bat mitzvah preparation

The Dor le-Dor program is available to all Jewish families–whether or not they are members of a synagogue –with children in grades 6 and 7:

  • Two Sunday morning gatherings a month for kids and parents to explore together spiritual and ethical dimensions of life
  • As well as rich Jewish religious traditions such as tallit, tefillin and Shabbat blessings and more
  • An experienced, open-minded rabbi to consult with for personal bar/bat mitzvah planning and, if wanted, to officiate at the service
  • Access to experienced Hebrew tutors for group and/or individual lessons to master Hebrew reading, Torah chanting and your child’s own maftir (at an additional cost based on your child’s individual learning needs)
  • Shabbat dinners, holiday celebrations, field trips and more
  • Community with other bnei mitzvah families
  • Individual guidance in “wrestling” with your child’s Torah portion and in your child creating a dvar Torah
  • Participation in a hands-on group Mitzvah Project at a Vancouver homeless shelter
  • Optional membership in Ahavat Olam, a vibrant and progressive new Vancouver congregation—at no extra cost.

Conversion

Individuals wishing to explore conversion Judaism can talk with Reb David about spiritual issues. Reb David is particularly respectful of individuals raised in mixed-heritage homes who feel a spiritual connection to Judaism.
